Description
This CPD will give you an understanding of what PTSD and C-PTSD is, the symptoms and how they impact the survivor and their families, and how we can help as Solution Focused Hypnotherapists.
PTSD & C-PTSD (Complex PTSD) are present more and more within therapy sessions which can be daunting to deal with, understanding that they are more than flashbacks and panic attacks. Being able to recognise and have knowledge of the symptoms and how they can impact our clients and their families, will empower our client work. As therapists, we can give our clients back their power and the ability to move on from trauma.
Course Content
This course will cover:
- What is trauma, PTSD and Complex PTSD
- The Impact trauma has on the mind/brain
- How some can be affected and others not
- An understanding of symptoms of PTSD & C-PTSD
- Coping techniques to pass onto clients
- Rewind – When it is and is not suitable for trauma
- The importance of supporting the supporter
The knowledge you will acquire in this CPD will give you an understanding of PTSD and C-PTSD, the symptoms and how they impact clients. Only doctors can diagnose PTSD or C-PTSD, but you will be able to recognise the symptoms, signpost them to their GP if required and wanted, and help you support client based work.
You will also be able to explain the benefits of the solution focused approach when dealing with trauma, and how repeatedly talking about trauma can re-traumatise your clients and strengthen the memories and behavioural patterns. You will know how to use the solution focused approach and gain the techniques to pass on to your clients to help them manage symptoms and regain control of their lives.
Presenter
Emma Jones
Mindset Coach. Clinical Hypnotherapist, Master NLP Practitioner & Solution Focused Psychotherapist at Mindset Coaching Hub
Emma qualified in July 2021 with CPHT gaining her HPD and DFSH. She works full time as a hypnotherapist in her own practice in Essex, along with running anxiety workshops. She continues to work with police officers and groups that support them, which has include speaking at police exhibitions and delivering training to the Metropolitan and Wiltshire Police.
Prior to this Emma spent over 10 years in the police as a detective working on domestic abuse, homicide and eventually specialising in sexual offences. These roles also involved being a family liaison officer to victims or their families in the cases of murder. As an officer she also received training around the impact of trauma on officers and victims.
A note from Emma: 'I was diagnosed with ADHD myself in 2022 at the age of 44. I have since learned a great deal about ADHD, how to manage the symptoms, and make them work for me. The diagnosis along with one of ASD which came at the same time, has actually lead to me being able to truly understand who I am for the first time in my life.
I want to help others with ADHD, and I have a number of clients with ADHD. Educating my colleagues and other therapists about ADHD will spread the support for those living with it, some of whom may in later life only just be learning they have it and this is who they are.'
