Karen Dunnet
Senior Lecturer

karen dunnet

Karen has had a varied career, starting out as a lab technician in Aberdeen. Her time spent in the Psychology Department of Aberdeen University sparked her interest in how the mind works and culminated in Karen training as a hypnotherapist.

Karen moved into the commercial world and spent more than 20 years working in the pharmaceutical sector, working in both large and small companies, specialising in pharmacokinetics and logistics.

A desire to do something different lead to Karen becoming the proud co-owner of a delicatessen and café which is where she developed her business knowledge as well as her excellent baking skills!

The business ran successfully for more than 5 years when it was sold so that her business partner could retire. This was Karen’s opportunity to follow her long held desire to become a therapist. She chose Solution Focused Hypnotherapy for 2 main reasons: it is a positive, forward looking approach to therapy, making it an enjoyable experience for both client and therapist; and it suits her scientific brain.

Karen chose CPHT because it is a centre of excellence for hypnotherapy in the UK which offers training that incorporates the latest research, the best solution focused techniques along with the best bits of NLP and CBT as well as offering their students advice on how to set up and run their own practice.

Karen runs her own practice in Skipton as well as working with cancer patients in 2 local charities. She is currently finishing off her supervisor training and in the process of studying for the Advanced Diploma in Hypnotherapy. She is delighted to be part of the CPHT Preston team, looking forward to meeting and working with new students.

Karen lives just outside Skipton with her partner, loving being in the heart of the countryside.  She is also busy training for a half marathon, something of a surprise to her!
