“Born in Cheltenham, I moved to Bristol when I was 8 and then to Hong Kong when I was 13, due to my father working in the telecommunications industry. Educated at King George V school, eventually Deputy Head Girl, I was very keen in sports, in particular sailing (Ladies Colonies Enterprise Champion) and hockey, Captain of the Hong Kong Combined School Hockey Team and in the touring Hong Kong Ladies hockey team, touring and playing in South East Asian Hockey Tournaments. In later years I’ve played for the Hong Kong Connections team in the Golden Oldies World Hockey Festival in Adelaide and Edinburgh.

In 1979 we returned to England where I started work doing an eclectic mix of jobs, from carpenter’s assistant on the Hamble, Southampton, car rental receptionist in Bristol and Wembley. I then married and had two wonderful boys.  On becoming a single parent, my boys and I moved back to Bristol, where I worked with BT, first as a clerical assistant before promotions to Clerical Officer, Personal Assistant to Regional Manager. I then succeeded in gaining promotion and worked as a Manager in Strategic Procurement. Initially working with our European mobile joint ventures which involved quite a bit of travelling and organising conferences at various locations in Europe. Next moving to the Radio Group looking after contracts for the Emergency services.

In 2002, I started suffering from ME (Chronic Fatigue) and it was during long term sick leave that I decided on a career change, something that involved working with and helping people. Having experienced hypnotherapy and realising the benefits from the sessions I decided to become a Hypnotherapist. I was attracted to CPHT because of the ongoing support and a sense of community, which was important for me as I recovered from ME. In 2003 I enrolled on the school’s 3rd Intake – early days! – and graduated in 2004. During my training I had started working as Saturday morning receptionist at the Clifton Practice, and this role I continued when I began practising Hypnotherapy.

As the CPHT courses developed so did my involvement with them including rolling out the training to the Satellite Schools. Today my time is divided between teaching, supervising, giving professional support to CPHT student/practitioners, coordinating the CPD and Supervision programmes, managing accreditation, updating CPHT intranet, extranet and public website content… being a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist… and a Granny.

I enjoy helping people, of all ages, make positive changes towards their goals, whether it be clients or students, friends or colleagues. But mostly I enjoy helping people to see that life should be fun.”
