Word of mouth is still the best and cheapest form of advertising your business but this can take time to build. Graduates of CPHT start generating word of mouth enquiries right from day one of the training course by practicing on friends and family free of charge. As a result, many graduates have a solid client base by the time they qualify and the confidence to put their skills into practice.

However, in the early days it is vital that other methods of promoting a new business are explored. Many of us will understand the power of the internet these days with 78% people going online every day. According to a report in 2015 by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) 69% of people in the UK do their product or service search online. So it makes sense for new hypnotherapists to have a strong internet presence. So what form should this presence take?

Is it enough to just have a Facebook business page or do we need a website too? If so what type of website is best? Do we need to be able to change its content regularly or will it be okay to make the odd change now and again? Someone once said that that “having a website and not promoting it is like having a billboard in the desert – no-one can find it”.

So how would you best promote your website/Facebook page? What about other social media such as Twitter, YouTube or Instagram, do they have a worth in promoting your business? What about listings in directories or newspaper advertising? Do you need business cards and leaflets? Are these types of promotion old hat? Are they worth the money that they charge?
