Is Hypnotherapy Training Expensive?

several stacks of coins

It is easy to look at the price of any training course and compare it against the cost of other courses. However, if you are trying to decide whether hypnotherapy training is expensive, there are several things to consider. If you are looking to start a new career as a self-employed hypnotherapist, the most important point to consider is how well will it equip you for that future career?

Are you encouraged to practice throughout the training course on people with real conditions?

To become confident with any new skill we must practice it repeatedly. Typically, CPHT students will have at least 200 hypnotherapy hours under their belt by the end of the course. They will see their anxious volunteers become much more relaxed. Their clients may lose weight or stop smoking, as students use the tried and tested techniques seen demonstrated in class. This process is ideal for helping them to become competent and confident in their craft.

Are your tutors available between modules to help support you?

If you learn something new, it is likely that you will have questions. When practicing new skills between modules, CPHT students are given support if they need it. They may need guidance as they help their clients or help to answer questions in the portfolio. Regardless of their needs, CPHT’s tutors are available to answer their questions.

What are the qualifications of your tutor/s and are they still in practice?

When a tutor has their own practice, they are more likely to be up to date with the latest information. They will be familiar with issues facing self-employed hypnotherapists. The tutor will understand how best to market their business. Students can learn a lot listening to tutors talk about their own cases, while maintaining confidentiality.

At CPHT we also believe it is important to bring in other lecturers occasionally. These lecturers tend to be experts in their field and help to provide variety for the students.

Will the course teach you the basics of running a business?

You can be great at what you do but if nobody knows who you are, how will people know to look for you? Marketing is an essential ingredient of the CPHT course. At CPHT, we also cover some basic accounting and data protection. These are both vital areas for students approaching self-employment for the first time.

Does the course allow you to pay as you learn?

When retraining for a new career money can be tight. We know it can be hard to come up with a lump sum to invest in your future career. This can be particularly difficult at the beginning of a training course before you are able to see any return on your investment. At CPHT we understand this and want to make it as easy as possible for you. After acceptance on the course, we ask for a deposit followed by 9 further payments paid from module 1 to module 9. This spreads the cost of the course over 10 months, making it more easily affordable for students. One benefit of the CPHT course is that from module 7, you can start charging half price for your sessions with clients. This gives you the chance to earn back the cost of the course before you qualify in module 10. Students often do just that!

Are the qualifications nationally recognised and if so to what level?

It can be frustrating to attend a hypnotherapy training course and pay out good money, only to find that the course has been an expensive waste of time. Make sure that the qualifications are nationally recognised and are accredited by the relevant awarding bodies. There are two qualifications you can achieve on the CPHT course, the DfSFH and the HPD. The DfSFH (Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy) is a full diploma and accredited by the AfSFH (Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy). The HPD (Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma) is accredited by the NCH (National Council for Hypnotherapy). It is also verified by NCFE as a level 4 qualification on the UK’s national vocational framework. Both qualifications enable you to join the CNHC (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council) the UK voluntary regulator for complementary health practitioners.

How soon after the course is completed will I be able to go into business?

If you have attended all the modules and completed all the practical assessments, you will qualify in module 10 with the DfSFH. This means that you can begin your career as a self-employed hypnotherapist straight away. The HPD is achieved through submitting a portfolio of evidence. The portfolio consists of questions to answer, to showcase your knowledge and case studies to show your competence. Students of CPHT can hand in their portfolio on the last day or the course. This is because the course allows them to practice on people with actual conditions. After internal and external verification, the HPD, which is considered to be the gold standard qualification in the UK, is awarded.

So, when considering retraining for any new career, make sure that you are comparing like with like. To decide whether a hypnotherapy training course is expensive, consider the cost against what you will receive. How likely it is that you will achieve your goal of becoming a successful, self-employed hypnotherapist? Do you want to feel confident & competent as a hypnotherapist by the end of your course? If so, we think you will find that the course run by CPHT is great value!

A Student’s Perspective – Joe’s Journey

a stethoscope above the word phobia

This is an amazing story from Joe, a successful and lovely CPHT graduate. It’s a personal account of how hypnotherapy helped him overcome a significant and overwhelming phobia of hospitals. It’s a great ending and at last Joe can live without that nuisance fear that has plagued him throughout his life.

Hi, My name is Joe Forshaw; I am a Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist. I gained my qualification with CPHT in Liverpool in December 2019. I have completed many vocational courses over the years and gained a Psychology Degree as well as a Post Grad Cert in Criminology. However, in regard to my personal and career development, studying Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy with CPHT was without doubt the best decision I have ever made.

It has allowed me, at my own pace, to pursue a career that I have always wanted, one that is interesting and rewarding in equal measure.

However, it is my own experience of using Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy that I would like to share.

For as long as I can remember I have had a secret. This secret was a fear, a dread, a phobia. As a result of two medical procedures when I was very young, I had a phobia of hospitals, doctors and specifically medicals and medical procedures such as surgical operations.

This phobia affected my life in many ways. I have avoided my GP wherever possible, in fact I haven’t visited my GP in ten years. I could not visit people in hospital unless absolutely necessary and I would avoid applying for jobs that included a medical. I knew I would pass any medical but the fear of anything showing up that might mean going to hospital or a needing medical attention terrified me. It was a fear that was with me constantly, e.g. I was in constant fear that I might have an accident that needed medical attention.

Even as a Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist who can deal with other people`s phobias I refused to try to deal with my own. I preferred to ignore it, for me it was the elephant in the room.

Then recently my nightmare became a reality. I had a freak accident that resulted in me breaking my hip. I tried my best to avoid going to hospital, but I knew I had to.

I had an X-Ray which confirmed that I had broken my hip and I needed a replacement. I was taken to a ward and told that the op was scheduled for the next day. If I could have written my ultimate nightmare scenario, this was it. I had all night to wait in utter terror for the surgery the next day.

It was then that I remembered that I was a Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist.

I had two SFH relaxation recordings on my phone. One which I had recorded for my clients to use and one by my Tutor and Supervisor from CPHT, Cathy Eland which I use for myself.

So, from nine o`clock that night until the moment the nurse came to take me to theatre just after midday, I listened to the relaxation recordings constantly one after the other. I remember sleeping intermittently but the recordings were playing the whole time.

When the nurse arrived, this should have been the worst possible moment of my life, after all I had dreaded and imagined this moment ever since I could remember.

Yet I wasn’t terrified, I wasn’t in a state of panic, I was calm, completely calm.

I found myself completely relaxed to the extent that I was even joking with the nurse telling him about the unusual details of my accident.

When we arrived, I chatted with a doctor who explained all the procedures that would take place in the preparation room before going through into the operating theatre. Again, I was totally calm, totally rational and totally relaxed.

With the help of Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy, I had overcome my lifelong fear. I still sometimes can`t believe it.

Before this if I was 99% sure that SFH was an amazingly effective therapy, I am now absolutely 100% sure. Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy works, I am proof of that.

If you are thinking of studying with CPHT, I can recommend them with complete confidence.

Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy will not only allow you to change your career it will change your life. You will also make lifelong friends on the course.

It will be the best career decision you ever make, it most certainly was for me.
