Lydia has always had an interest in psychology and following a brief stint as a trainee accountant (which she quickly realised wasn’t the right path for her!) she went on to study Psychology at the University of Surrey, graduating in 2005. Whilst studying Lydia became very interested in the psychology of education and once she graduated she secured a number of Assistant Psychologist roles, working alongside Educational and Clinical Psychologists across Kent and Sussex. It was during this period of her life that she became aware of Solution focused therapy and saw the positive impact it had on people’s ability to make lasting changes to their lives.

Lydia eventually decided to take her love of psychology and learning into the World of teaching and she completed a postgraduate qualification in primary education in 2012. She went on to work as a Reception Class teacher for 8 years, and for the last three years of her teaching career, joined the senior leadership team as Head of Early Years.

She first discovered Solution Focused Hypnotherapy when a family member started struggling with symptoms of anxiety and a local SFH therapist was recommended to her by a family friend. Lydia saw the incredible transformations her relative made in a short space of time and she realised people needed to be made more aware of this form of therapy. At the same time, she was starting to develop symptoms of burnout: extreme fatigue, lack of motivation, a loss of passion for the job she used to love. She was stressed all the time and it took it’s toll on her family so she knew that she needed to make a change. She was excited therefore to find CPHT had a training school nearby in Brighton and that not only would she learn the theory and approaches behind Solution Focused Hypnotherapy but also learn how to set up a successful hypnotherapy business so she could leave her stressful job and become her own boss!

Lydia graduated from CPHT Brighton in 2020 and that same year opened her therapy business, Stepping Stones Practice, in Horam, East Sussex where she sees clients online and in person. She also regularly delivers mental wellbeing workshops in Corporate and Educational settings, as well as in the entertainment industry, empowering people to apply practical tools to manage stress, reduce anxiety, improve sleep and ultimately achieve their goals.
