Embracing a Positive Future: My Journey into SFH and rapid performance improvement

CPHT Hypnotherapy Training - Embracing a positive future

By Helen Wilks, DSFH, HPD

“I’m a brand-new graduate from CPHT Bristol, having recently gained my Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH) and the externally accredited Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD) with the NCH. At 51, with grown-up children now giving me the space to follow a long-held dream, I’ve stepped into an entirely new career, and I couldn’t be happier with the choice I’ve made.

Helen Wilks - Solution Focused Hypnotherapist

What drew me to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) more than any other approach was its gentle, forward-looking philosophy. We don’t need to dig into the past and focus on the problem; we simply ask, “Where do you want to be, and how will you know when you’re there?” That resonates deeply with me.Throughout my own life, I’ve faced plenty of challenges, yet I’ve always tried to live by the attitude “everything happens for a reason” and to focus on what I can learn and how I can move forward positively. When I discovered that SFH is built on exactly that principle, I felt really excited to have found a structured and proven-effective way to help others both recognise and build on their own strengths.

One of the most encouraging things I learned early in my training is that research consistently shows SFH is equally as effective in the hands of newly qualified therapists as it is with those who have decades of experience (1). Success depends not on years logged, but on following the evidence-based, structured approach and creating a warm, collaborative relationship with the client. As a relative newbie, this gave me tremendous confidence. I don’t need decades of practice behind me to help people transform their lives; I simply need to apply what I’ve been taught with care, skill and genuine connection.

My own first-hand proof

While I was still a student, our lecturer asked for a volunteer to demonstrate the “swish”, a rapid technique for replacing an unwanted behaviour with a preferred one. I put my hand up immediately, as I had something I was feeling completely ‘stuck’ on. Like many new therapists, the thought of creating social-media videos filled me with dread: my face would tighten, my mind would go blank, I’d feel sick with nerves and look exactly as terrified as I felt. I wanted instead to feel relaxed, confident and completely myself on camera.

The lecturer did a simple 20-minute hypnosis session: relaxation, a short deepener, the “swish” technique, and a gentle awakening. It didn’t feel complicated. A week later, I sat in my therapy room and pressed record on my phone to test myself. To my astonishment, the fear had completely gone. I was relaxed, smiling, chatting away as though the camera wasn’t even there. That single session was yet another reminder (there are so many!) of just how powerful SFH can be, and it ignited my fascination with performance work.

My own first-hand proof

Once I completed the performance improvement module of my training and heard about studies demonstrating the astonishing efficacy of SFH for this, I couldn’t wait to put it into practice. My very first sports client was a keen golfer who had been struggling with a lack of consistency and overthinking for a few years. He knew technically what he needed to do; he just couldn’t reliably do it when it mattered.

Week 1

I started with the classic Solution-Focused “What’s been good?”, explained the intellectual/primitive mind model (and how overthinking drags us into the primitive mind right when we need that calm focus), and used the Miracle Question to clarify his goals.

Week 2

I used the ‘swish’ technique, and he chose to replace “thinking too much”, stiff hips and lifting his head too early, with emptying his mind, the rotating hip movement he knew he wanted, keeping his head down, calmly hitting the ball and a smooth follow-through. We also chatted about how to anchor an ‘emptying your mind’ trigger: he chose to touch the ball in his pocket before each shot as the trigger to put himself instantly into the intellectual mind. The very next day he played in a tournament – and to his delight and surprise, he won his division. He hadn’t ever placed in a tournament at the golf club he joined 3 years prior.

Week 3

We did a future-pacing reframe during hypnosis. He visualised every shot going exactly where he wanted, feeling proud and calm, hearing the compliments from playing partners, noticing the smell of freshly cut grass and the sound of the ball landing softly on the fairway just where he wanted it to. The following day, he finished 4th out of 130 players, 1st in his age division, and played, in his words, “the best golf in a long time”. Fellow competitors voiced their amazement at his success, and he attributed both weeks’ wins directly to hypnotherapy.

Week 4

We did a further reframe, this time adding rich sensory detail around his putting – feeling the perfect weight of the putter, visualising the perfect pace and line, hearing the satisfying sound of the ball dropping confidently into the hole. I also taught him how to practise visualisation on his own, emphasising the golden rule: always visualise the positive outcome you want, never the negative. The next day, he told me his putting was “really improved” and his partner had remarked on how well he was putting, even saying, “Don’t tell me you’ve had hypnotherapy for putting as well?!” Everything was clicking just as he’d imagined.

Overall, across the four weeks we worked together, his golf handicap was cut by 3 points from 17 to 14, and months later he tells me he is now still playing better and more consistently than he has in years. He is thrilled with the results, full of confidence and excitement for the game and his improvements.

The power of SFH in creating positive change

These early experiences (and many others) have confirmed everything I hoped when I chose this path: SFH is fast, graceful and extraordinarily effective, especially when someone simply needs to ‘get out of their own way’ and perform at the level they’re truly capable of. Whether it’s a golfer finally trusting their ability, someone able to fly on holiday for the first time in years, a parent of a special needs child overcoming anxiety, an executive finally gaining the confidence to move on from a stressful job, or a brand-new therapist happily recording videos, the same principles and techniques apply.

I may be at the very start of my career, but I have already learned that as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, I don’t just help people feel better; I help them move confidently towards the future they want. Whether at work, in sport, or simply in everyday life, it’s so rewarding to be able to empower and support clients to envisage their goals and then watch their preferred futures unfold in real time. I am also deeply aware that family, friends, colleagues and teammates also benefit greatly from my clients’ improvements. I feel incredibly privileged to be part of that process, and excited for all the positive changes I will get to witness as my client base grows.”

The Skills and Traits of a Successful Hypnotherapist

Hypnotherapy is an established practice with a long history of techniques and conventions. Over the years, we’ve seen a number of desirable skills and traits that are present in those with a desire to excel in their hypnotherapy careers.

At CPHT, we believe that anyone with the right passion can become a successful hypnotherapist. We’ll run through the core requirements, extra skills, CPDs, and how to provide the best service to your clients.

Ready to improve your hypnotherapy skills? Get in touch today.

Core Requirements to Become a Hypnotherapist

Before we can get in to the stand-out skills and traits that will set you apart and enable the best service for your clients, we must first start at the basics. Here, we’ll break down the fundamental requirements you’ll need to kickstart your hypnotherapy career.

1. A Hypnotherapy Certification

Your journey into the world of hypnotherapy should begin by getting a qualification from a trusted industry body. At CPHT, we provide a hypnotherapy diploma that will teach you everything you need to get your career going, giving you the tools and skills you need to start off successfully.

2. Passion for Your Craft

While anyone can become a hypnotherapist with the right training, it’s the truly passionate people who find it easiest to succeed. Becoming a hypnotherapist requires motivation, both to get through the training and then to start up your career, so passion and a genuine desire to help those in need are great motivators to get you through it.

3. The Ability to Market Yourself

Getting the word out there about your skills, certifications, and offering is difficult – especially as a first-time hypnotherapist. Once you’re established, it becomes a lot easier to find work, so these initial stages are the hardest hurdles to cover.

At CPHT, all our courses come with on-the-job experience, meaning you can already start building a portfolio for success before you even graduate. Beyond that, we include training to market yourself, ensuring you know how to effectively advertise your services.

4. A Particular Field of Interest

Many people become a hypnotherapist because of an issue they or someone close to them is suffering from. They learn hypnotherapy to help deal with this issue, and quickly discover its potential and versatility as a career.

As hypnotherapists move through their career, they will often settle into a particular niche. Having a vested interest in a certain field or type of condition will help you gain experience more rapidly in that niche, leading to you becoming a trusted, go-to hypnotherapist for people suffering from those conditions.

5. Confidence in Delivery

To make sure your clients are assured by your skills, you need to have confidence in your delivery. Hypnotherapy is unique in that many practitioners choose to work from home, which means you need to be confident in holding online, 1-to-1 sessions.

A good way to prepare for this is by ensuring your setup is tuned to perfection. Starting a call with technical difficulties can be a big hit to your confidence, so making sure everything is prepared in advance will keep things running smoothly.

Extra Skills that are Useful to Have

As well as the core fundamentals, there are some additional skills that you might have already gained from the course of your life or other career. Here are some of the most desirable, additional skills that could make a career in hypnotherapy an easy choice for you:

  • Good listening and comprehension
  • Patience
  • Good time management
  • Balancing work-life priorities
  • The ability to learn on the job
  • Interpersonal skills

Hypnotherapy is a truly versatile profession, and people from all backgrounds and skillsets find success in the industry, so the skills you’ve gained until now are sure to show their worth in unexpected ways throughout your hypnotherapy journey.

How to Provide a Reliable, High-Quality Service to Your Clients

Becoming an exceptional hypnotherapist is about more than knowing your techniques – it’s about how you deliver your service to your clients. Successful hypnotherapists build trust, consistency, and professionalism into every part of their practice. Here’s how you can do the same:

Create a Safe, Comfortable Environment

Whether you work from home, a clinic, or online, your clients should feel calm and welcomed the moment they enter your space. This means a tidy, private room, minimal distractions, and a warm, friendly presence. When clients feel safe, they relax more easily – which leads to better outcomes.

Be Consistent and Reliable

From keeping sessions on time to responding promptly to enquiries, reliability shows clients they can trust you. Make booking simple, follow up when appropriate, and maintain clear communication about availability and expectations. These small actions build strong, lasting client relationships.

Stay Client-Focused

Every client arrives with a unique story. Taking the time to listen, adapt sessions to their needs, and celebrate their progress helps create a personalised experience. It’s important to meet clients with a positive, solution-focused approach that supports their goals.

Keep Professional Boundaries

A high-quality service also means maintaining clear, respectful professional boundaries. This includes confidentiality, ethical practice, and knowing when a client may benefit from additional medical or psychological support. Professionalism protects both you and your clients, reinforcing trust in your expertise.

The Benefits of a CPD Course

Furthering your knowledge after graduation is the best way to stay in-the-know with the latest updates in hypnotherapy. Not only does this allow you to polish your fundamentals, but continuing personal development (CPD) courses can provide additional information and training for your field of interest.

By specialising in a chosen field through a CPD, you add additional value to your service offering, while enabling you to appeal more to a specific set of clients.

We deliver our CPDs entirely online, meaning you can participate entirely from the comfort of your own home. This interactive and engaging process lets you learn, while easily balancing your pre-existing home and work responsibilities.

But becoming a hypnotherapist doesn’t happen overnight – you need the right training and certifications to ensure your efforts provide the best help for your clients.

At CPHT, we are the leading providers of solution focused hypnotherapy in the UK, offering courses from entry level to advanced. In this blog we’ll go through the steps needed to start, maintain, and grow a career in this exciting industry.

Ready to get started? Get in touch.

1. Gaining an Interest

The first step is to gain an interest in what you’re doing. Maybe a friend or family member suffers from a neurological disorder, or someone you know is tackling a challenging health goal. In any event, having personal investment in the field is a great motivation to get started.

Even if you don’t know someone struggling, there are plenty of good reasons to get involved with hypnotherapy. Perhaps you have a passion for supporting others, or are just seeking a change in your working lifestyle.

No matter how you start, once you find the right motivation, the next step is to get certified.

2. Finding the Right Hypnotherapy Course

Your initial hypnotherapy certification marks the real first step you take into the industry. It gives you all the skills and knowledge you will need to understand client conditions, and instil the best practices for handling clients with care while finding the best resolution to their issues.

Our Hypnotherapy Diploma course is designed to give you all the information you need to join or start a hypnotherapy practice. This ten-month certification provides knowledge, techniques, and a supportive community – alongside a reputable certificate – to build on and validate your hypnotherapy skills.

On this practical course, you will:

  • Learn theory, skills, and techniques
  • Be given a platform to ask any questions
  • Develop your marketing skills
  • Gain active experience

As part of a Hypnotherapy Diploma at CPHT, you will also be taught valuable marketing skills. Many hypnotherapists are independents or open their own practices, often operating via Teams or Zoom to access thousands of clients from around the country.

Learning how to stand out in a competitive online marketplace is vital to ensuring the success of your hypnotherapy career, and to making a return on your education investment. We teach you all the necessary skills to ensure your career can thrive, and provide a supportive environment you can return to.

4. Gaining Active Experience

Learning on the job is vital to see how different patients respond in different circumstances, and to grasp how to apply your techniques in real-world scenarios. Experience in hypnotherapy will also show you how well it works, providing results and helping you build confidence in yourself – which leads to even more effective treatment down the line.

As part of our Hypnotherapy Diploma, we ensure you get real on-the-job experience, preparing you for the next stage in your career.

5. Discovering Your Speciality or Niche

As you interact with more patients and conditions, you may find there’s a particular specialism that you’re most interested in. Typically, hypnotherapists will begin to specialise in a certain field as they grow more comfortable with their work, carving out a niche in the market.

Doing more work in this niche is bound to develop your skills, but you can also get started with a Continuing Personal Development (CPD) course, tackling issues such as:

  • Neurodiversity
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • PTSD

How to Start and Build a Successful Hypnotherapy Practice

CPHT Hypnotherapy Training - How to Start and Build a Successful Hypnotherapy Practice

Starting a hypnotherapy practice can feel like a challenging concept, especially when you’re new to the industry. If you haven’t started your training yet and are looking at the commercial viability of hypnotherapy, then the idea of starting out alone may feel like an impossible hurdle. But we’re here to show you it’s not.

At CPHT, we provide reliable hypnotherapy training that gives you all the tools and techniques you need to start and grow your own hypnotherapy practice. In this article, we’ll provide a step-by-step guide that makes the process clear and simple, ensuring you’re ready for your exciting future as a certified hypnotherapist!

Can’t wait to begin? Get in touch!

Step 1: Starting Your Hypnotherapy Training

Your first step should be to get some initial training as a hypnotherapist. If you’re already certified – great! You can move on to the next stage. If not, however, then this section is for you.

In your hypnotherapy training, you will be guided through all the key principles of providing hypnotherapy. This includes:

  • Methods you can use
  • Common problems you will see
  • How solution focused hypnotherapy works

On top of these basic fundamentals, you will be given modular tasks, the opportunity to gain field experience, and an open platform for further discussions.

After you’ve completed your training, you should be in the prime position to start your own hypnotherapy practice. But if you’re still feeling uncertain, worry not, as there are plenty of other avenues available to you as well.

Start your solution focused hypnotherapy diploma today >

Step 2: On-the-Job Experience

As mentioned, you will receive on-the-job hypnotherapy experience during your Solution Focused Hypnotherapy Diploma course. For some people, this gives them enough experience and confidence to carry out hypnotherapy for a diverse range of clients and customers.

However, if you find you still want to gain more experience, there are options.

CPHT Hypnotherapy Training - Working with friendsWorking with friends and family. Many hypnotherapists get into the practice as they want to help a friend or family member resolve a specific issue. By working with them to help find a resolution, you will gain confidence in yourself and your abilities that can be massively beneficial for your future work.

Joining a hypnotherapy organisation. You may be able to find a place as part of a larger, established hypnotherapy practice. Depending on your location and work requirements, this may give an avenue to build your confidence and experience, using the reputation and support of an existing organisation.

Volunteering. When someone is paying for something, it’s a given that they’ll expect to get their money’s worth, and this can be daunting when you’re just starting out as a hypnotherapist. Volunteering takes away the expectation that money brings, giving you an opportunity to gain experience without as much pressure.

Step 3: Understanding How to Market Yourself

Alongside experience and skill in hypnotherapy, marketing is a vital part of starting your own hypnotherapy practice. If you can’t sell yourself and your skills, you may find it hard to get things off the ground and really prove yourself – especially when you don’t have a large portfolio.

Our Hypnotherapy Diploma offers marketing training alongside everything else, helping you be prepared for starting your own practice upon completion.

Step 4: Setting Up Your Hypnotherapy Practice

With the skills, expertise, and resources in place, the next step is to start your own practice. Here are some simple steps you can follow to begin:

  1. Join a professional body. This includes organisations like the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), the National Hypnotherapy Society, or the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).
  2. Get insurance. You will want insurance like professional indemnity insurance or public liability insurance to protect you in case of an incident.
  3. Register your business. There are a few different options here, such as registering as a sole trader or a limited company. You will want to ensure you’re registered with HMRC, and that you have a business bank account set up to handle expenses.
  4. Set up a practice space. Whether you’re operating from home or investing in your own premises, you will want to have a safe and professional space for your clients to see you in.
  5. Set up your fees. You will need to set how much your services cost, and market this clearly to potential customers. Looking at other hypnotherapy practices can give you an idea of where to start, and our marketing training will help you as well.
  6. Marketing and growing your practice. While staying compliant with the regulations, you can now continue to grow your practice in accordance with your capabilities. This could mean taking on a broader range of customers, or narrowing your focus to a specific niche.

Step 5: Specialising in a Niche

Many hypnotherapists find that as their practice grows, they want to focus on a specific type of issue. This could be due to personal preference, customer trends, or a need to understand more about a specific issue.

In any case, we can help you develop your skills with a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course. In this course, you can dive deep into the specifics of certain hypnotherapy-treatable issues like:

  • Adult ADHD
  • Neuroscience
  • Self-harm

… and many more! We even offer a CPD in Growing and Building Your Hypnotherapy Practice – a great next step if you’re feeling stuck.

What is a Hypnotherapy CPD?

A Hypnotherapy Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a course designed to build on your knowledge after graduating from a hypnotherapy diploma. It provides further guidance and information into a specialist or niche subject matter, helping you become a true expert.

Our CPD courses are interactive sessions, delivered online so you can participate from the comfort of your own home. This enables you to continue your hypnotherapy work at your location of choice, while still being able to further your development with our in-depth courses.

What can Hypnotherapy CPD Courses Teach Me?

Working with Children

This CPD covers working with children and teenagers, through informative discussion, engaging activities and a wide range of creative ideas and resources.

Menopause

CPD Menopause

The menopause is an emotionally and physically complex issue. This CPD will give you an understanding of the issues, and the confidence to support clients experiencing it.

How to Specialise as a Hypnotherapist

The main way to specialise as a hypnotherapist is to attend a CPD, which will give you advanced knowledge in a particular subject matter of your choosing.

You can then take this knowledge and accreditation, and market yourself towards people with these particular problems. Over time, this will lead to further refinement and specialisation due to your accumulated on-the-job experience.

Other ways you can enhance your skills include taking part in our community, or furthering your knowledge through an advanced hypnotherapy diploma course.

The Importance of Expanding Your Hypnotherapy Knowledge Pool

When it comes to improving your adaptability as a hypnotherapist, sometimes specialising isn’t the only way to go. Dealing with a specific problem can benefit from a wider pool of knowledge and experiences to draw from, helping provide context or unexpected avenues which could be fruitful in your practice.

Even if your intent is to specialise in a given set of issues, having wider knowledge is still useful. This can help you to identify if the root cause of an issue is different to the problem being described, or provide unconventional solutions that could be applicable on a case-by-case basis.

Our hypnotherapy diploma is designed to give you a solid background on everything you need for your hypnotherapy career, providing the foundations to branch off into your specialisms while giving you all the fundamentals in solution focused hypnotherapy and marketing.

The Benefits of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH)

The Benefits of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

Solution Focused hypnotherapy is a guided method for helping people overcome their problems, and as such comes with a number of benefits for both patients and practitioners.

At CPHT, we provide quality hypnotherapy training for budding and established hypnotherapists, giving you all the skills you need to succeed in this impactful industry. In this article, we’ll go over the key benefits of solution-focused hypnotherapy and highlight cases where it makes the greatest impact.

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern approach to therapy that combines talking with hypnosis. It focuses on what clients want to achieve (the solution), rather than on the problems that brought them to therapy in the first place.

Drawing on solution-focused therapy, neuroscience, and positive psychology, it helps people move forward by encouraging thinking positively, setting goals, and entering a relaxed state of being.

Why is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy So Impactful?

Solution focused hypnotherapy offers a plethora of benefits, which is why it is such a wide-spread method of resolving people’s issues. These benefits include:

  • Versatility
  • Client satisfaction
  • Speed of resolution
  • Results-oriented approach

Below, we dive deeper into these benefits to give a better insight into why solution focused hypnotherapy is a great choice.

Effective For a Wide Array of Conditions

Being versatile is essential for many different health practitioners, as you never know what issues someone will come to you with – so it’s best to be equipped to deal with them all. Practitioners can develop in-depth knowledge about a variety of conditions, with the opportunity to further specialise in areas that align with their interests or the needs or their clients.

Client-Centric Approach

CPHT Hypnotherapy Training - Happy Client

Solution-focused hypnotherapy is all about putting the patient first. It involves truly listening to and understanding their situation and needs, and forming the best action plan to steer them in the right direction.

With an end-goal of finding actionable ways for your clients to deal with or overcome their issues, you’ll find SFH gives rise to a whole host of happy customers.

Quick Positive Impact

Some clients find that a couple of sessions is all it takes to make strides on the road to recovery. Depending on the condition you’re dealing with, you could very quickly make a positive impact on your client’s wellbeing. Acting as a supportive partner to help people understand, contextualise, and work through their issues can be a long journey, but SFH helps you to see a positive impact fast.

Focuses on Preferred Outcomes

A massively important part of hypnotherapy is making your clients feel safe and heard. They’re often coming to you in a state of vulnerability, with past trauma close to the surface. Solution focused hypnotherapy enables you to dive deep while avoiding this trauma, helping your clients work towards their preferred outcomes without revisiting unwanted memories.

Free Hypnotherapy Training: Is It Worthwhile?

CPHT Hypnotherapy Training - Free hypnotherapy training: is it worthwhile?

Getting started as a hypnotherapist can be challenging. While no qualifications are legally required, you will find it tough to acquire customers – or know how to handle them – without at least some level of training. Some people try to avoid the upfront cost of hypnotherapy training, turning instead to free courses.

At CPHT, we provide a dedicated and quality service to help you become a certified hypnotherapist. We believe the cost of your training is an investment in your future, and it opens up a whole host of opportunities and unique experiences. In this article, we’ll explain why you may want to consider paid hypnotherapy training over free hypnotherapy training – comparing the two, and showing the benefits.

The Drawbacks of Online-Only Hypnotherapy Courses

Completing your training from the comfort of your own home, at your own pace, sounds almost too good to be true – and that’s because, for the most part, it is. For some, online hypnotherapy training is far more appealing due to other life commitments, but the level of quality and experience gained doesn’t hold up against in-person training.

Face-to-Face Experience

The best part of our hypnotherapy course is the on-the-job experience you will receive throughout. This puts you in the real world, with real customers, where you can see what it’s like to engage in a practice. Unlike online-only or free courses, this enables you to build up your experience – and your portfolio – so you have a leg to stand on when it comes to delivering your own practice.

Direct Guidance from Qualified Trainers

Online courses don’t have the same level of intimacy as in-person training. This can mean information isn’t as easily absorbed, or as readily available. You may also find yourself watching pre-recorded videos, with no platform to ask your own questions.

The in-person training at CPHT is a little different. Throughout your course, you will receive training from qualified trainers with a background in the industry. They’ll be able to impart lots of hard lessons learned about the job, helping you build your knowledge and satisfy any questions you may have.

Further Insight and Discussions

Finally, a free online hypnotherapy course typically starts and ends at the certificate or completion you receive. It is unlikely to lead on to any further insights, discussions, or specialisations.

Meanwhile, when you’re engaging in a live classroom, you’ll be able to find lots of opportunities to discuss things further and take your education to the next level. This can really help when trying to find the direction you want to take your career, and can even lead to opportunities like job placements or further educational development.

Online vs In-Person Certifications

The difference in quality between free hypnotherapy training and paid hypnotherapy training can be seen clearly in the level of certification you receive at the end.

At CPHT, our courses come in several stages, each giving you recognised qualifications that can be used to prove your competency and assure potential clients that you have the needed skills to resolve their problems and act as a trusted provider.

Online hypnotherapy training tends to give you a simple certificate to show you’ve completed the course. This isn’t as credible as a proper qualification like the one you receive from our DSFH diploma, to which you can add the HPD, a Level 4 Certification equivalent awarded by the NCH – the UK’s largest hypnotherapy association, upon completion of your portfolio.

Trust is incredibly important for hypnotherapy practitioners, both in resolving customer issues and in attracting business in the first place. Without the right qualifications, you may find it hard to get work or repeat business, which loses you money in the long run.

We run schools across the country, acting as a recognised provider of quality hypnotherapy training. This gives you access to a number of convenient locations to train, at prices that don’t break the bank.

See our different schools >

Unlocking Career Opportunities

Finally, a key benefit of our in-person training over online hypnotherapy training is the career opportunities it unlocks. There are a number of reasons why this is the case, which include:

  • We provide our trainees with marketing training, helping you get your practice off the ground.
  • Part of our course is on-the-job experience with real customers, giving you a wealth of things to draw from and confidence in your skills.
  • Further Development. If you want to develop your skills further, our range of other training courses and CPDs provide the next stage in your education.
  • Access to Our Community. Being part of the CPHT community will help build your network in the industry, unlocking potential career opportunities and providing a framework for support.

Start Your Hypnotherapy Career the Right Way with CPHT

Free online hypnotherapy training simply doesn’t offer the same level of quality, experience, or certification as our in-person diplomas. By avoiding the initial cost of training, you would also miss out on tons of opportunities and valuable lessons you can take to your future work.

At CPHT, we provide high-quality hypnotherapy training at affordable prices, giving you access to expert insights, tailored lessons, and a welcoming community. If you want to find out more, please check out our course details or sign up today!

What is Hypnotherapy Used For?

What is hypnotherapy used for?

Hypnotherapy is a versatile treatment that can be used to help people deal with a variety of issues. From mental health to physical wellbeing, the right hypnotherapy can support people through their personal challenges and help them achieve their goals.

At CPHT, we provide aspiring hypnotherapists across the UK with expert advice and quality training, helping you build your skills and experience as a hypnotherapist. In this article, we’ll explain some common use cases for hypnotherapy to show you how it can support clients of all kinds.

How Does Hypnotherapy Work?

Hypnotherapy is a combination of Psychotherapy and Hypnosis.

Often referred to as a ‘talking treatment’, Psychotherapy involves talking together to help clients overcome their difficulties. Psychotherapy in itself is extremely beneficial and its effects are enhanced by the application of Hypnosis, a state of deep relaxation and focused attention in which the client is more responsive to beneficial suggestions directed towards the subconscious mind.

There are different types of Hypnotherapy. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy in particular focuses on solutions for the future, rather than analysing problems of the past. However all Hypnotherapy involves exploration and guidance from a trained, trusted individual making hypnotherapy suitable for working through a wide variety of issues.

Find out more about how hypnotherapy works with our ultimate guide >

Common Issues Treated by Hypnotherapy

Due to the beneficial nature of hypnotherapy, it is a versatile form of treatment that can be applied to a wide range of health concerns and lifestyle challenges. While generally suited to dealing with problems with mentality, it can also have resulting impacts on a patient’s physical wellbeing, too.

Here are a few common issues that hypnotherapy can help treat:

Anxiety

Anxiety, stress, and other mental health conditions are some of the most vital use cases for hypnotherapy. Clients with these conditions will often be vulnerable and possibly even volatile, with triggers for their conditions causing major impact to their lives.

Hypnotherapy offers a gentle, focused solution, allowing you and clients to enter a safe space where beneficial suggestions can be directed towards the subconscious mind. This is an empowering process, helping clients take the reins back for their own feelings and future.

Weight management

For many, weight management is an incredibly challenging aspect of their daily lives. Getting back in shape can seem daunting, as the slow and steady progress that’s required doesn’t tend to show on a day-to-day basis. This lack of positive affirmation that tough effort is paying off can result in negative tendencies like overeating, lack of exercise, and low moods – all of which feed back into the overarching issue.

With hypnotherapy, you can help clients get out of these negative behaviour spirals, ensuring they can achieve their weight management goals.

Sports performance

Sports are highly competitive and very demanding, both physically and mentally. There will be times when athletes encounter obstacles they don’t feel they can overcome. Maybe their personal best isn’t improving, or is getting worse. Perhaps they recently lost an event by a large margin.

Whatever the case, hypnotherapy can provide much needed support and reassurance to improve sports performance. By guiding clients into a reflective state, you can reframe their thoughts and help get their mentality back on track.

… and many more

There are plenty of issues that can be addressed with hypnotherapy. From mental health to lifestyle and performance, hypnotherapy provides people with the support they need to overcome their challenges and live happy, fulfilling lives.

As a hypnotherapy practitioner, it is your responsibility to understand the requirements of different patients and provide the guided care they need to address their concerns. If you’re interested in a specific niche, then acquiring a hypnotherapy specialism can help you down your path.

Acquiring a Hypnotherapy Specialism

Many people enter the field of hypnotherapy because of a specific incident in their past. Perhaps a loved one is struggling with chronic pain or depression, or maybe a friend has had issues getting the motivation to achieve their goals. In any case, some hypnotherapy practitioners don’t want to have a broad, overarching clientele. Instead, they opt to specialise in a certain niche.

One of the best parts of being a trained, independent hypnotherapist is that you get to choose how you work and who you work for. If you want to specialise, then you’re fully able to do so. Specialising can even open up more work as you become a trusted name for patients with a particular issue.

Before you acquire a specialism, however, you’ll want to obtain a hypnotherapy qualification.

Quality Hypnotherapy Training in the UK

Hypnotherapy training offers you the ability to upskill, gain experience on the job, and receive a qualification that proves your legitimacy as a certified hypnotherapist. This encourages potential patients to get in touch, increasing your opportunities for work.

We also offer CPD training to help you further develop your career and specialisms – find out more >
